Looking
for a Herd Sire?

Rocking O Longhorns has several bulls, both young and old, offered for
sale. Our recent acquisitions of several herd sires, including Emperor's
Echo and PCC Gladiator has left us
with more bulls than we can use. We have several proven herd sires and a large
selection of top-notch prospects, including sons of multiple Horn Showcase
Champion Capone. We were the first breeders of Capone
and you will not be able to find his sons over three years of age anywhere
else. Whether your herd focuses on size, horn, color, or all three, we have
bulls for you to consider. We have priced them very competitively as we believe
they should be out breeding cows rather than sitting idle in our bull pasture.
Please let us know if you would like any information on these herd sires or
if you would like to come see them in person. They can be viewed with prices
on our featured buys pages.
Herd History
Welcome to the Rocking O Ranch webpage. We bought our first three longhorns in January of 1996 from Bob Coffee's Travis Peak Ranch and the herd has grown every year since. The majority of our cattle trace back to Travis Peak Ranch, where we purchased our first two herd sires, Ranger's Roughneck and Brawl. We owned Brawl through his death in December of 2006 and have retained over 40 of his daughters. He passed on tremendous size, great color and his gentle disposition. Fortunately we were able to keep Big Chief, a tremendous son of Brawl, as his replacement. Big Chief placed second in his class at the 2003 TLBAA World Show, where he was by far the biggest bull his age. We also had the pleasure of raising Blue Jacket, the 1999 TLBT National Grand Champion Bull and TLBAA Reserve Junior World Champion Bull. We have ten of his daughters left in our herd. They are very correct and thick, with great color and slick coats.
We have always preferred cattle with good horns but were primarily concerned with raising big, healthy, colorful calves in our early years. As we began paying more attention to the market we decided to emphasize horn length in our breeding program. In the spring of 2002, we purchased Capone from Darol Dickinson's ranch in Ohio. Capone had both the longest horns and the third best weaning weight from Darol's crop of bulls that he had made available for sale. While pleased with our purchase, we were not aware of just how tremendous Capone would become. His horns surpassed the 70" mark before his 4th birthday, giving him some of the longest horns in the breed. We sold Capone in 2006 but have retained close to 40 of his daughters and several of his sons that we think will make great herd sires for us. We used five of his sons for breeding in 2006 and plan to use at least two of them, Maestro and Sparticus, in 2007 and beyond. We are offering the other three for sale, and they can be found on our featured buys bull page. Stockton Ranches bought not only Capone but also one of his daughters, CO Pinta, from us. CO Pinta was a colorful heifer with long, flat horns thanks to Capone and good thickness that had been passed down from her grandfather Blue Jacket. Stockton Ranches sold CO Pinta at the 2006 Legacy Sale for $49,000, making her one of the highest selling heifers of all time. We are very proud to have raised this heifer and very excited to still own many of her sisters and several of her brothers.
Having been more than satisfied with Capone, we decided to purchase two more bulls, Winner's Edge and Undeniable, from Darol Dickinson. Both bulls are sons of Winchester, who weighs over a ton with over 70" horns. Undeniable is a full brother to Victory Lap, one of Darol's main herd sires. Edge's mother, Queen of Not, had 69" horns at age 7 and weighed 1160 pounds. We are excited about both of these herd sires and have been pleased with the calves of Winner's Edge that were born late in 2006.
In the fall of 2006 we bought three young herd sire prospects from our friend David Hillis's Double Helix Ranch. All three bulls, D-H Royal Express, D-H Donnavan and D-H Apollo, are sons of Crown's Classic Shadow (68" horns), the top selling bull at the 2003 TLBAA Horns Showcase Sale and the Grand Champion Bull at the 2002 Grand National Stock Show. We are pleased with the development of each of the three and especially with Donnavan, who is projected to have over 70" horns at maturity.
With our breed stock of Brawl, Rope Burn (Bail Jumper), Abraham and Blue Jacket daughters, along with our Capone daughters that are coming of age, we are very optimistic about the future of our breeding program. By using well-built bulls with great horns we can strive to raise exceptional longhorns that have the complete package - horns, size, and color. Our ranch is located about 25 miles Southeast of Austin and we have leased 1400 acres several miles south of Lockhart. We would be more than happy to show you our cattle. You can email us at cohlendorf@austin.rr.com or call (512) 327-5766 or 680-7118 if you have any questions or would like to set up a time to visit. While all of our cattle are for sale, we have created a "featured buys" section on the website showing the prices of many of our cows, heifers and bulls. You can click on an animal's picture to see more information, including a pedigree, short description, calving information, additional pictures, and horn measurements (with projected horn length at maturity courtesy of Malcolm and Connie Goodman). We hope you enjoy browsing our site.
